NEW YORK, NY --
In less than a month, Jennifer Lopez will pound the pavement, hit the water and put the pedal to the metal as she competes in her first ever triathlon.
The first time mom of twins Max and Emme, with husband Marc Anthony, joined “Good Morning America” on Monday and said the idea for taking on the heavy-duty competition, was inspired by her third trimester.
“It actually came up when I was about eight months pregnant, and I was beached… like a whale, and I was watching TV and I saw a triathlon and I said, ‘You know what? I think I could do that. That would be great for me to do, maybe I’ll do it this year,’” she told “GMA.” “Everybody told me I was crazy.”
Since announcing her plans to take on the triathlon in Malibu on September 14, where Jennifer will run for charity – the Children’s’ Hospital of Los Angeles, she’s been training regularly to get ready and netted an honor – Self magazine’s Most Inspiring Woman of 2008. And, it appears Marc has been heavily involved in her athletic progress.
“He’s very supportive,” Jennifer said of her husband. “He loves it… He set up a whole little area for me to run with a treadmill.”
The hardest part however, for the singer and actress has been hitting the water.
“The swimming is a killer, I’m not gonna lie,” she said. “I’m a good athlete. I feel like my stamina — I can get it up there if I work really hard, but the swimming, swimming’s a killer.”
But Jennifer said she plans to conquer the water and the other parts of the course, no matter what.
“If I have to crawl across that finish line, I’m going to crawl across that finish line,” Jennifer laughed.
In related news, Jennifer also gave an update on her twins, noting the babies, which she and Marc have been taking care of nanny-free are doing well.
“They’re great, they’re great, they’re amazing,” she said. “They’re sleeping through the night.”
But, Jennifer revealed, they won’t be without help forever.
“We actually just tried somebody out last week… because I’m gonna be going back to work and do a film, later in the year, so I’m trying to find somebody, but we’ve been doing it by ourselves and we love it. It’s awesome,” she said.
