NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. --

Angelina Jolie says she was immediately sucked into the script for her new movie, “Changeling,” but the intense subject matter was almost too much for the actress — enough for her to consider not making the film.

Angelina, who looked stunning in black Versace at Saturday’s New York premiere, told Access Hollywood that the script for the Clint Eastwood-directed film about a child who has been kidnapped was quite a page-turner.

“When I first read the script I couldn’t put it down,” the actress told Access.

Though engaging, the movie’s dark subject matter frightened the mother of six.

“It was a film I didn’t wanna touch because I didn’t want that around me, I didn’t want the thought of kidnapping or anything happening to my kids,” she said.

Angelina said she drew inspiration from her late mother when it came time to decide if she wanted to tackle the challenging story.

“She (Christine Collins) reminded me of my mom so much, who I had lost in that year, and she was such a great mom and she’s a real woman,” Angelina said of her character. “I wanted to tell her story and in the end she fought so hard to change the system that she became a hero of mine. I want people to know about Christine Collins.”

Angelina and Brad were back in New York City for the first time since giving birth to their twins, Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, in July.

“They’re great,” Angelina said when asked how her newborns were.

She credits the size of her family in helping her to deal with time away from the kids.

“We’re such a big family, so when we leave, they’re all still together. The family is intact and they’re hanging out,” she told Access.

Even the family’s recent move to Germany while dad Brad film’s Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglorious Bastards” has not been hard on the kids, according to Angelina.

“We have a routine now… we have a system down and the kids are great travelers, thank God!” she said, “So we’re good.”

Something that is never routine, is Oscar buzz, which has already begun for the “The Changeling,” and Angelina’s co-star, Amy Ryan, understands why.

“Oh, it doesn’t surprise me,” Amy told Access. “Angelina — she’s extraordinary, and it starts with a great script.”

Director Clint Eastwood, who referred to Angelina as a “director’s dream,” said her acting talent shined brighter than her celebrity status while filming

“She’s so high profiled that sometimes you forget how really talented she is,” Clint told Access. “She’s a wonderful talent and she just takes all this in stride. I don’t know how she does it really.”
