TWO FUNNY FILMS FOR TWO FUNNY MEN: In casting news, reports that Jack Black is starring in “Year One,” a comedy that “Knocked Up” director/producer Judd Apatow is producing for Columbia. Plot details for the comedy are being kept under wraps, but Owen Wilson will reportedly executive produce, and Harold Ramis (”Animal House”) will reportedly serve as director and co-producer. According to VARIETY, Ramis co-wrote the project with “The Office” scribes Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg, based on his story. also reports that Jim Carrey will star in the dark comedy “I Love You Phillip Morris,” about a conman whose love for a cellmate leads him to make several prison escapes. Reportedly based on a book by Houston Chronicle crime reporter Steve McVicker, the fact-based film casts Carrey as Steven Russell, a married father whose exploits landed him in the Texas criminal justice system. He fell madly in love with his cellmate, who eventually was set free, which led Russell to escape from Texas prisons four times. A schedule for shooting has not yet been determined.

HOORAY FOR ‘HE-MAN!’ : And finally, confirms what has long been rumored: “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” is being developed as a new feature film by Warner Bros. and producer Joel Silver. The deal for the live-action movie is is contingent on “He-Man” rights holder Mattel (makers of the toy line) formally approving an outline for the project. The franchise has been reimagined and pitched to Mattel as a classic good vs. evil battle, using the kind of visual effects strategy employed in “300.” A warrior is touted as the last hope of a magical land called Eternia, which is being ravaged by technology and the evil Skeletor. Despite internet rumors of casting possibilities for the lead role (which have included Brad Pitt, among others), VARIETY reports that no official casting decisions have been made as of yet.

WEIRD NEWS: What does this have to do with Entertainment? Nothing, it’s just entertaining to read. In Chicago a 10 month old boy, Bubba Ludwig, has been issued a gun permit. His father did this after Bubba’s grandfather gave Bubba a 12-gauge Beretta shotgun for his birthday. It’s a little heavy for him to shoot right now. The funniest thing is that some clerk actually had Bubba “sign” the thing, with a scribble. Who knew there were people named Bubba outside of Georgia.
