To give a true assessment of a Britney Spears album, one has to listen to it in the context of the genre that it falls into. Britney Spears is never going to produce something that sounds like Stevie Nicks or, for that matter, even something that sounds like a peer of her’s, such as Pink.
Britney albums really can only be measured against other Britney albums – she’s developed a sound that in many ways truly belongs to her.
That being acknowledged, “Circus,” Ms. Spears’ sixth full original studio album, is actually quite good.

Back in July, I posted my Top 10 Song Remixes of Summer, and so now I’m following it up with my Top 10 of the rest of the year.
As a fan of the genre, I’m always impressed with the ability to take a regular pop song, and turn it into something completely different – something that you can hear out in the clubs or work out to at the gym – it’s an art form in and of itself.

“There have been so many stories about the two of us not getting on,” Christina told the Daily Mail. “We don’t keep closely in touch with one another, and it’s obvious how our lives have taken on two different directions.”

Two of my favorite artists from the RCA Records group are back this fall with Greatest Hits collections, and along with their respective retrospectives, both of them are releasing new songs along with their compilations.
First up, is Sarah McLachlan, whose 16-track anthology, “Closer: The Best of Sarah McLachlan,” will be released on October 7.
Next up, comes Christina Aguilera’s “Keeps Gettin’ Better: A Decade of Hits,” which will be available for purchase on November 11, exclusively through Target.
Often, I’m cynical about Greatest Hits collections – especially for younger artists – I always feel like, “Come back when you have Tina Turner’s career – THEN, you can put out a Greatest Hits collection.”
These two, however, are going to be welcome additions to my library.

“The quality and enduring popularity of the Spice Girls hits have proved that their appeal crosses generations, as well as stretching around the world. The tickets for the North American tour sold out in a few seconds and we are adding more dates. I am delighted to be working with Victoria’s Secret on the Greatest Hits album and welcome their innovative approach to marketing,” said Simon Fuller, CEO / Founder of 19 Entertainment, which manages the Spice Girls. In addition to 13 of the Girls smash hits, such as “Wannabe” and “Say You’ll Be There,” “Spice Girls: Greatest Hits” contains two brand-new songs, “Voodoo,” and the Girls’ upcoming single “Headlines (Friendship Never Ends),” their first new single since 2000’s double A-side “Holler / Let Love Lead the Way.” As a special bonus, the CD available at Victoria’s Secret also includes 3 downloadable bonus remixes: “Wannabe,” “2 Become 1,” and “Spice Up Your Life.” Capitol Music Group will also release a CD/DVD deluxe edition, which includes a DVD featuring all of the Spice Girls promotional videos, and a gift box version, which includes the aforementioned CD and DVD, a karaoke disc, and a gift bracelet on January 15th, 2008. “Spice Girls: Greatest Hits” will be available nationwide on January 15th. Until then, the CD version that includes 3 downloadable bonus remixes will be available exclusively at Victoria’s Secret in the US. The CD will hit Victoria’s Secret less than three weeks before the Spice Girls — which is Victoria Beckham, Mel B., Emma Bunton, Melanie C., and Geri Halliwell — hit the road for their hotly anticipated sold out reunion tour, launching December 2nd in Vancouver. AMBASSADOR IGLESIAS: Latin music sensation Enrique Iglesias recently marked an achievement of his own, when he became the first Western performer to put on a concert in Syria in over 30 years. spoke with Iglesias about his July 4th show in the troubled Middle Eastern nation, of which he said was “one of the best crowds [he] ever played for.” “I’ve traveled around the world, and I’m so used to being places where there’s conflict,” Iglesias reportedly said. “Obviously, there’s tension, but there are still millions of people that live a normal life. It’s not like you’re going to go there and there’s going to be gunshots or bombs going off in every corner. When people watch the news, that’s the vision they get from these countries, and it’s not like that.” Enrique added that he was surprised to learn that his audience, made up of a diverse array of people, knew his lyrics and sang along. “Every single song,” he is quoted as saying. “Whether it was a single or it wasn’t a single. That’s what amazed me from the first song to the last song.”
