Brad Pitt Gets Award For Best Actor At Venice International Film Festival, One Year Later

The Venice International Film Festival honored Brad Pitt with its Best Actor trophy on Wednesday, People reported — but not for one of this year’s films. The award was held for him since winning last year for “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.”

Brad is at the festival for his latest, “Burn After Reading,” the Coen brothers’ dark comedy in which he costars with frequent screen partner George Clooney. Pitt plays a gym employee who stumbles upon a disc of secret CIA information.

‘Burn After Reading’ Opens Venice Film Festival

The Coen brothers wrote their dark comedy, “Burn After Reading,” with stars George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Frances McDormand in mind. Not necessarily a compliment.

The Venice Film Festival opened Wednesday with the gala premiere of the movie, a tale about idiots — and what happens when their worlds collide. “Burn After Reading” is playing out of competition for the Golden Lion, which will be awarded on the festival’s closing night Sept. 6.

‘Transformers’ Writer: Shia’s Most Dangerous Scenes On The Way

Injured star Shia LaBeouf’s most dangerous scenes are yet to come, Roberto Orci, co-writer of “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” told Scifi.com.

Shia arrived back on the set last week following his July 27 car accident and subsequent hand surgery, from which he remains bandaged.

“We incorporated his injury into it,” Orci said. “Not because it was absolutely necessary, but [director] Michael [Bay] in particular wanted to be able to protect him on the set. [Bay] wanted to make sure that we weren’t playing around with his injury.”

Nikki Blonsky’s Father Denied Bail Following Airport Brawl

The father of “Hairspray” star Nikki Blonsky will remain behind bars until Aug. 19 in a Turks and Caicos jail, Access Hollywood has confirmed.

Carl Blonsky has been in police custody in Turks and Caicos since a July 29 airport brawl that included his daughter Nikki, “America’s Next Top Model” contestant Bianca Golden, and Bianca’s mother, Elaine.

Carl Blonsky, along with his wife, appeared in court Friday, where the judge ruled he must remain in jail until his trial, which is set for August 19. However, he could appeal a to higher court to be let out on bail, according to police.

Brad Pitt Goes ‘Inglorious’ For Tarantino

It’s official – Brad Pitt has joined Quentin Tarantino’s WWII film, “Inglorious Bastards,” The Hollywood Reporter reports.

According to the trade, Brad will play Lt. Aldo Raine, a Southern rebel turned Jewish resistance leader, who leads eight Jewish American soldiers on a campaign of vengeance on Nazis in German-occupied France.

Other actors reportedly still in talks to join the cast include Simon Pegg, David Krumholtz, B.J. Novak, Eli Roth and Nastassja Kinski.

The Hollywood Reporter writes that, “Pegg would play a British lieutenant. Krumholtz’s part would be that of a member of Pitt’s team.”

Oscar winner Morgan Freeman is in serious condition in a Memphis hospital, following what is being called a serious car accident.

Freeman, who currently stars in “The Dark Knight,” and a female passenger, Demaris Meyer, were driving on Mississippi Highway 32 in a rural area of Tallahatchie County approximately four miles west of Charleston at 11:30 PM when Freeman’s car went off the right side of the road and proceeded to flip over. The doors were jammed on the vehicle and both of them had to be removed from the car with the jaws of life, a spokesperson for the Mississippi Highway Patrol confirmed to Access.

‘Twilight’ Author Stephenie Meyer ‘Never Dreamed’ Of Being A Writer

“Breaking Dawn,” the fourth and final novel in the “Twilight” series, arrives in stores this weekend, concluding the vampire romance that’s been keeping readers up all night since the series debuted in 2005. The books have a monster hit among young adults and beyond, with the first novel, “Twilight,” selling 3.5 million copies, and “Eclipse,” the third installment, topping even “Harry Potter” on the bestseller list. A film adaptation is due in December.

It’s all been a lot to take in for author Stephenie Meyer, a wife and mother of three who told CBS News she never expected she’d be published – much less writing bestsellers.

Former astronaut Buzz Aldrin told reporters at the New York premiere of the animated film “Fly Me to the Moon,” on which he did voice work, that he’s in talks for a film about life after his lunar landing. Aldrin was the second man to set foot on the Moon after Neil Armstrong in the 1969 Apollo 11 mission.

The film would follow his triumphs and troubles following the flight, including his romance with wife of 20 years, Lois. And the astronaut already has an actress picked out for the role: Reese Witherspoon.

Earthquake Shakes Hollywood

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

A strong earthquake shook Southern California on Tuesday, causing buildings to sway and triggering some precautionary evacuations. No immediate damage was reported.

The jolt was felt from Hollywood to San Diego, and slightly in Las Vegas.

Preliminary information from the U.S. Geological Survey estimated the quake at magnitude 5.8, centered 29 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles near Chino Hills in San Bernardino County. Ten aftershocks occurred in the next dozen minutes, including three estimated at 3.8.
