Ani DiFranco has released an album almost every single year since her debut in 1989. And with each album, she gets progressively more profound and continues to evolve (Which also happens to be the name of her 2003 album). Ani is one of those artists that has been stuck with the stigma of “angry rocker chick.”
True, she does have her fill of angst-ridden songs, but Ani only writes what she knows and what she’s experienced, which is proven by nearly 20 years of fiery lyrics and vigorous guitar-playing.

Yesterday I headed down to the uber-hip Echo Park neighborhood here in Los Angeles to hang out on the set of a new TheWB.com series called “Rockville, CA.” It’s a web only series created and executive produced by Josh Schwartz, the man behind “Gossip Girl,” “Chuck,” and the late “OC.” The show is a drama that centers on a group of LA hipsters who work at the fictional Rockville club and will feature performances from some very cool indie bands. It’s not set to air until March though, so I’ll tell you more about that project in a few months.
In the mean time, I grilled Josh for some scoop on our favorite guilty “Gossip” pleasure. Let’s just say this is a man who is a good at keeping secrets, but I was able to squeak a few things out of him.

Fresh off a painful divorce with rock super group Velvet Revolver and reunion shows with his extremely popular 90’s band Stone Temple Pilots, lead signer Scott Weiland is releasing his second solo record titled “Happy (In Golashes).”
The disc finds Scott collaborating at times with a Gwen-less No Doubt (guitarist Tom Dumont, bassist Tony Kanal and drummer Adrian Young), as well as producer Steve Albini, who’s famous for helming albums by The Pixies, The Breeders, and Nirvana, to name a few.
“Paralysis,” the first single from “Happy,” finds Scott in the latter territory. The song is adventurous and experimental sounding, with swirling, chiming guitars building up to a staccato chorus with Scott’s voice sounding very “Low”-era David Bowie.

Legendary rock band AC/DC first came on the scene over 30 years ago with their debut album, “TNT.” They hit it big with 1979’s “Highway To Hell” and just a year later, exploded with their seminal album “Back In Black.” Now, all these albums were released before I was even born, but I know good music when I hear it (at least, I like to think so). And AC/DC is good music. The lyrics may not be too deep or affecting, (which is what I often look for), but it’s hard to not want to turn up the volume whenever their songs come on.
The boys are back with “Black Ice,” their first album in eight years. And it was quite a shock to learn that their 15th studio album sold a staggering 784,000 copies in its first week, which makes it the 2nd highest debut of 2008. What’s even more astounding is that the album was only sold exclusively at Wal-Mart.
